Hey everyone!
We have good news and bad news.
First,
the bad news: We’ve tried a few different ways of talking to Hasbro
about getting special permission to continue the game, but it seems that
is officially a dead end, and it's time for us to move on.
The good news is that the game is not dead!
Some even gooder news is that we have a new member in the Mane6 family...
Some even gooder news is that we have a new member in the Mane6 family...
We’d like you all to warmly welcome Lauren Faust to the team:
Hey folks! I’m so super psyched to be a part of this! I hope I can do my little part to help Mane6 finish up this game in a way that stays true to the spirit of the original—but in a way that can freely be shared! I hope you like what we come up with. -LF
She’ll be working with us (or is that the other way around?) to create all new characters for Fighting is Magic.
Yes, we know what you’re thinking, and yes, she is pretty kickass.
Yes, we know what you’re thinking, and yes, she is pretty kickass.
So what does this all mean? It means that with Lauren’s help, we are going to finish this game, but it will no longer be based on the MLP franchise. It will be all new characters in a new setting, while keeping the moves, mechanics, and style of the game we wanted to make from the start. This means a lot of work for us, and a bunch of new challenges, but we’re excited about the possibilities that come along with them.
We
are still in the early concept stage and can’t wait to update everyone
on what we come up with together. We will provide plenty of
opportunities for you guys to get to know the characters and their
world.
We
know you guys will have a lot of questions, we’ll do our best to answer
them, but at this early stage some might be a bit hard to tackle.
Thanks for sticking around for the ride. <3
– Mane6 team.
OMG! THIS IS INCREDIBLE! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
ReplyDeleteGreat news, was hoping hard work wouldn't go to waste
ReplyDeleteAll my YAY!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, super stoked to hear this.
Lauren, let me just say that you're fucking awesome. Nothing else needs to be said.
ReplyDeleteThis is crazy awesome news!
ReplyDeleteSWEET
ReplyDelete((Hope people can hack together the game with the original ponies. Can you say easter egg?))
ReplyDeleteOr not. This is gonna be sweet. Aaah, I can't wait!
Wow, this is quite a development. I'm happy for you guys :D
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and this is awesome news =D Having Lauren Faust on the team is going to be so boss!!!
ReplyDeleteI got a question and I hope it's not silly; the new characters will the be still ponies or something else?
o_o
ReplyDeleteOh.
Well...
ReplyDeleteI am seriously glad that you can finish the game, but I'll be kind of disappointed that there won't be ponies in it, since that's why I heard of it in the first place.
Anyway, good luck with this!
Holy.
ReplyDeleteBucking.
Ponies.

ReplyDeleteYES!!!
ReplyDeleteSO MUCH <3 LAUREN!
ReplyDeleteAwesome
ReplyDeleteThis is so awesome, and I know that whatever you guys come up with will be great! Best of luck to you!
ReplyDelete/THIS/ is awesome, and just goes to show what an amazing person someone like Lauren Faust is
ReplyDeleteI could not believe what I am seeing. What kind of stunts are those you just pulled? :D
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Lauren Faust for saving this <3
ReplyDeleteDo it, filly!
ReplyDeleteSo Much Win !
ReplyDeleteOkay, so granted, I did see this coming from Twitter, but still, wow. That's gotta be the single coolest way to get around this problem.
ReplyDeleteCrossing my fingers for ALPACAS.
ReplyDeleteKitten Kerfuffle is real? FINALLY!!! I've been waiting for this day for ages!
ReplyDeleteThey won't be related to the MLP franchise at all.
ReplyDelete((So... your going to finish the game but not with the six mane characters?))
ReplyDeleteIm sure many of us hope that there would be an accidental leak of the current game with ponies. Im really excited what you can come up with, but I will miss the ponies...
ReplyDeleteI WANT TO CRY THIS IS SO AWESOME
ReplyDeletei never knew Faust would ever do something like this no wonder people refer to her a a godess. I love you Lauren
seems interesting , i might...MIGHT check it out but if it's no longer pony it's not my top priority. the new game does sound interesting im...just not that much of a gamer
ReplyDeleteInb4 FOX C&D's you for linking to Futurama.
ReplyDeletehave to admit, I had no intention of playing it as long as it was MLP related. But now that it's not, I think I'll keep track of this now.
ReplyDeleteSo not based on the MLP franchise... does that mean that they will be ponies still? Like OCs? Really excited to hear this. I just want to know.
ReplyDeletehaha!
ReplyDeletethere will be ponies just not the ones from the show.
ReplyDeleteSo does this mean that there will be no ponies of any kind involved then?
ReplyDeleteeven though it won't be what it was intended to be in the first place. i am defiantly excited for what you will all come up with. never give up.
ReplyDeleteLAUREN LET ME HUG YOU FOREVER AND EVER
ReplyDeleteHOLY BALLS!!!!! YES!!
ReplyDeleteThis is the coolest thing that has ever happened... period.
ReplyDeleteYes. Nothing MLP-related.
ReplyDeleteLAUREN FAUST IS SO GODDAMN AWESOME <3
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU LAUREN!! YOU'RE THE BEST!! LOTS OF LOVE! <3
ReplyDeleteNot OCs of MLP ponies. New characters entirely.
ReplyDeleteYou guys should leak the current version with ponies in it... accidentally. Well I guess you shouldn't, but we would all love to get our hands on it.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU LAUREN!!!! :D
ReplyDeleteIt's like the original version of the game died and is going to be reincarnated.
ReplyDeleteSo, basically someone can switch out the art assets with a mod and it will be fighting is magic again...
ReplyDeleteSo, I understand that this mean no MLP related anything. (Hasbro's loss honestly), but I'm curious. Does this mean all new music as well, or will you keep the stuff already done by RainbowCrash and Whitetail?
ReplyDeleteIt'll end up being modded for pony. you can be sure of that. Pony FiM will see the light of day at some point. I dunno why people think we'll never see it one way or another.
ReplyDeleteAre you keeping the ManeSix name?
ReplyDeleteI'm just wordless!! Btw, are you keeping "Mane6" as name? Or, it's going to change too? *hopesnot*
ReplyDeleteHasbro phonies
ReplyDeletetried to oust
but screw the ponies
we got faust
Does this mean you're going to try selling the game on Steam?
ReplyDeleteWOW.
ReplyDeleteThis is THE best possible outcome EVER, now even past the C&D.
The prime gamemakers in the community, now wi-
Seriously?!?!?!
Wow wow wow.
HELL YEAH
ReplyDeletewell for one they did make the music themselves, but then again the themes do have hints of mlp related music..
ReplyDeleteAwww.... I wanted the Ponies.
ReplyDeleteYAHOO!
ReplyDeleteI wonder that as well.
ReplyDeleteI feel bad for the work that was already put into this. I hope that at the very least they are able to release the assets for this. not just the sprites, or the backgrounds (we never got a real good look at fluttershy's stage) but the voices, music, etc. we never got to hear the voices for Dashie or fluttershy. I know that MLP Online were able to release their assets so hopefully we get the chance to really appreciate all the hard work they have already done.
Oft-seen exchange:
ReplyDeleteQ: Will the original characters still be ponies?
A: They won't be related to MLP in any way.
I'm going to interpret this somewhat-sidelong response as, "Yes, but let's not talk about it, just in case Hasbro decides that they own the very concept of ponies."
Can't wait to see what this will bring. And with the help of Lauren designing brand new characters, you can take this much farther than Fighting is Magic could have gone before! Maybe even a downloadable title on Xbox Live Arcade or PSN if it turns out well enough! (and maybe finally make it to EVO for real next year lol :P)
ReplyDeleteHoly crap... Is this really really happening?
ReplyDeleteis there any chance of the characters NOT being humans. The idea of 4-legged combat was one of the best things about the original. Any word on the characters being mythical creatures or will they be humans?
ReplyDeleteAW YES
ReplyDeleteWhat I mean by OCs is new pony characters. This was my comment on EQD... "I'm really happy for the Mane 6 and huge props to Lauren Faust for doing
ReplyDeletethis. She is a truly incredible Lady. That being said... The reason
this game was so special was the fact that it was MLP in a fighting
game. Now it is just another fighting game... Not really big on fighting
games personally, but the fact of ponies fighting was amazing! I am
still very much interested in seeing what happens with it but still
disappointed. I'm probably going to get some crap for saying this but it
is just how I feel." So... basically will we have ponies kicking the crap out of other ponies or not?
So, it's a new IP. Not MLP-related. I got that. But how far removed are we going? Still some form of equine? Still quadrupedal?
ReplyDeleteI ask, because the post mentions keeping the moves and mechanics largely intact. The mechanics ties you to quadrupeds (you said so in a blogpost, once upon a time). The movesets tie you to some characters which can use magic, and others that can fly, so...
We're basically just talking expies here, right?
4-legged.
ReplyDeleteomg mythical creatures would be so baller!
ReplyDeleteNo, there won't be any ponies at all.
ReplyDelete"It will no longer be based off the MLP franchise. It will be new characters in a new setting."
There you go. No more ponies.
THERE'S A REASON WHY WE LOVE THAT WOMEN AND THIS IS IT
ReplyDeleteWay to turn it around! This community simply cannot be stopped by any adversity. Truly amazing!
ReplyDeleteYeah we'll be sticking to 4-legged animals for that reason.
ReplyDeleteAs awesome as this all sounds, I'll be blunt: no ponies, no interest.
ReplyDeleteThere are far too many fighting games with humans/humanoids and I don't give a rat's ass about any of them. I've been looking forward to this project because it was actually different.
However, I'll try to keep an open mind.
You'll need to pull off some serious voodoo to keep my interest.
Galaxy Girls Brawl!!
ReplyDeleteWill it be OC ponies or does the shape of MLP ponies belong to Hasbro as well?
ReplyDeleteomgoshomgoshomgoshomgosh!!! Im in it! :D
ReplyDeleteNow that you're moving on to different things, any chance you guys can reveal the 11 or so character roster you had planned?
ReplyDeleteLauren Faust continues to be best human.
ReplyDelete*insert angelic choir here* hallelujah!!!
ReplyDeleteIf it isn't ponies how is it still in the community? Just saying? Still may be an awesome game but if a game is made that doesn't have anything to do with MLP... How is it in the community? It will be in it's own category now. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteThey will be 4-legged characters. Also, we're pretty confident Hasbro do not own the concept of horse-like animals.
ReplyDeleteWould it be possible to install the mod with ponys? If yes, will you create this unofficial mod for yourself or fans should do this?
ReplyDeletePretty much exactly what I expected to happen. You have a solid set of mechanics that match classic character tropes (Bookish magic user, tough farm girl, pink hyperactive party person, shy animal lover, etc.), so there's practically no problems whatsoever with changing the characters to a whole new crew. You get to keep most (if not all) of your planned movesets and mechanics prework, leaving your main focus on the insanely scary high number of new art resources (Over a hundred subanimations per character? I feel for y'all...) and programming the hitboxes and the like. Looking forward to what comes next, and best of luck in all your endeavors!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for mythical creatures. :)
ReplyDelete...I am so, so happy for y'all right now :)
ReplyDeleteYeah if they wanna recreate every single frame of animation...or rip the ones we have from the leak and try to fudge the missing ones.
ReplyDeleteI think this will be just as awesome - we all know, for obvious reasons, that Lauren is good at creating fictional universes!
ReplyDeleteThree *yay*s for Lauren Faust!
*yay*
*yay*
*deep inhale*.... *yay*
Anyone can mod any game made with FM2k. Folks have already gone and combined FiM with some Pokemon battle brawler with intriguing results, so if you wanted to mod the old leaked version of the game and continue building off of that, it's definitely possible.
ReplyDeletewe are the best bronies. everybronie are my best friend.. and lauren, thanks. many thanks.. we love you.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't put it past them to try.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, now that you don't have Hasbro's copyrights hanging over your heads, are you guys planning on charging for this game?
ReplyDeleteWell, this should show those fascist bastards at Hasbro! Those sons a bitches can try, but we're bronies! We ain't gonna let hate take us down!
ReplyDeleteAre you still even going to be called the Mane6? Will that work with whatever you guys have planned?
ReplyDeleteGalaxy Girls? I would be 100% okay with that. I'm down with more all girl fighting games.
ReplyDeleteHey ManeSix, i have a question. i understand that you'll not be doing MLP ponies, but are they ponies of any sort? If not, what are they? Still quadrupeds or humanoids?
ReplyDeleteYes... YES...
ReplyDeleteYES! IT LIIIIIIVES! I knew persistence would lead to goodness eventually!
ReplyDeleteYes, i know that. which is why i said it would be modded for ponies after it's released. with all the fans of this game, you honestly think people won't mod it after it's released to make it like the game we currently know?
ReplyDeleteMore like reincarnated.
ReplyDeleteNo way dude, don't you remember? They bought the souls of equines back in 1957, after a bunch of mules tried to revolt. Hasbro put a stop to their rampages by holding all of their lives hostage.
ReplyDeleteLet's not kid ourselves, the only reason we were interested in this was because of ponies.
ReplyDeleteNo ponies
No interest
You're just one of a million other fighting games now.
But I'm still interested on how will this turn up. Fail?
ReplyDelete1. I give the pony mod a week after release
ReplyDelete2. If you are disinterested, why even leave a comment?
Inb4 it's a Galaxy Girls fighter
ReplyDeleteLauran already said that the OC's wouldnt be ponies
ReplyDeletecan you not read?
Congratulations for being the first unsuccessful troll on this thread.
ReplyDeleteI doubt it will take a week.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to know that Lauren herself is part of this new project but with all hopes of the original seeing digital release crushed by the morons at Hasbro, I won't be looking forward to this remade game.
ReplyDeleteI wish the Mane6 good luck in their future endeavors.
They already said the characters are 4-legged, so it is (probably) not Galaxy Girls.
ReplyDelete>No ponies=no hype
ReplyDeleteHave you forgotten how anticipated this game is? Do you not see the counter that says this page has 7 million views and counting? How the person who originally designed the character is developing new ones just so this game can stay in good terms with the law?
This is awesome news and I'm glad for you guys. look forward to seeing how this turns out.
ReplyDeleteAnd please, make sure it doesn't leak :(
ReplyDeleteThat depends on how tech-savvy an audience this game has drawn. It could very well be that everybody is expecting somebody else to make the mod. It could also be that mane6 itself develops the mod and releases it under a false name (unlikely, but possible).
ReplyDeleteIt's great that the game is finally moving on beyond this road block. Now with LF on the team, you have a great foundation for new art. However, what will be done with the VAs that already did their part? Will the be given new lines or are you going to be doing new casting calls? or are you reusing the assets they made?
ReplyDeleteAll we need is for someone to make a pony mod once it's done.
ReplyDeleteare they still the same characters like b4
ReplyDeletelike the main 6
Which I'm sure is what will happen, Hasbro can go suck it.
ReplyDelete4-legged. If there are any horsey types they will look nothing like the show. Lauren's got lots of ideas.
ReplyDeleteWe're OK with Mane6 for now!
ReplyDeleteCheck & Mate hasbro
ReplyDeleteWill it still be possible to showcase this at Brony conventions like EFNW or Bronycon to get the word out there or will that cause dispute with Hasbro about connections?
ReplyDeleteALL HAIL OUR ALPACA OVERLORDS
ReplyDeleteWell, then good luck. It doesn't interest me anymore (for same reason as I'm not interested in mugen), but I can still hope for you it works.
ReplyDeleteI think a devteam name change is in order, don't you?
ReplyDeleteAlso this is amazing news. I CAN'T WAIT to see what you all come up with. I have to say, I'm glad this project is becoming its OWN thing and no longer just riding the coat tails of pony popularity any longer.
Looks like that nasty C&D might have been a blessing in disguise, eh guys?
That was all when it was still going to be ponies. Once word spreads that it is no longer about ponies, interest will drop. From the comments of places that this has be x-posted to, I can say that a lot of people feel the same. No ponies = no interest. There are just too many other fighting games out there.
ReplyDeleteNot really... They won. We may still get an awesome game but they got just what they wanted. I don't think they care in the slightest if Mane6 makes a game that doesn't have anything to do with MLP. Why would they?
ReplyDeleteNope, all new characters, all new setting. It will be totally different. 4legged yes, but a totally new IP.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing possibly cute enough for me to accept the loss of ponies would be kittehs! Or fennec foxes.
ReplyDeleteFor Mane6... maybe? Time will tell. For the MLP community... no.
ReplyDeleteIn Lauren we trust. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteOMYGOSHOMYGOSHOMYGOSHOMYGOSH, awesome!
ReplyDeleteWas there ever any doubt?
ReplyDeleteIt's still in the community because the Mane6 team are still our guys. Anyways, I'm sure we can figure out a way to tie the new cast into FiM.
ReplyDeletewell isnt fim fausts ip therefor with her on the team hasbro cant touch you right?
ReplyDeleteall hail mother faust
ReplyDeleteInterest will drop from bronies who only wanted it for the ponies. Interest will be gathered, however, from fighting game fans who once thought they wouldn't play it because it was ponies.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reminding me of that possibility. Mods never get hit by cease and desist.
ReplyDeleteNo. Faust doesn't own FiM, MLP is owned by Hasbro.
ReplyDeleteJust when you think Faust can't get any more awesome!
ReplyDeleteThat's not how IP works. Hasbro own the MLP property and hired Faust to revamp it and thus create FiM. While she is responsible for what FiM is, she dows not own it.
ReplyDeleteShe doesn't own My Little Pony. She created Friendship is Magic, but she doesn't own that either,
ReplyDeleteAre you getting a new website?
ReplyDeleteFandom: deshi deshi basara basara
ReplyDeleteMane6: what does that mean?
Lauren Faust: rise
If you look closely at her twitter, she has been doodling a lot of different quadrapeds... including fennecs.
ReplyDeleteCUSTOM CHARACTERS PLS... save the movesets and let us apply them to our own creations. Who needs trademarked names when we can FIGHT EACH OTHER WITH OUR OWN OC'S!? I mean, how cool would THAT be?
ReplyDeleteIt is a pity that we wont get FIM however i must say this is awesome. I thought you guys had talent on your own but now that you have someone like Lauren working with you I cant wait to see this. also now that this is going to be an original game with original characters there are no more risks or red tape. good luck guys. I anxiously await an update for this game
ReplyDeletecrashry
So is this the alpha footage of the game?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAaX46ISKj8
I heavily disagree. In fact, from the comments of other outlets where this news has spread, people who didn't like it because of ponies are happy to see it die. If they leave it close enough so that it can be modded with ponies, it will survive, otherwise, I don't see it going anywhere.
ReplyDeleteI'm really sad that the Pony incarnation of this fighter that got me into the show in the first place is pretty much no more. I'll miss that incarnation very much.
ReplyDeleteWith that said though, this news could not be a better way to soften the blow! The fact you have Lauren Faust doing the new character designs is amazing enough by itself, but the fact that you're attempting to preserve the original gameplay, system, and style (does this the cuteness of the characters and settings?), just warms my heart! And now that you'll be using original characters, you can do whatever you want with them in the future, right? I absolutely can't wait to see more of this new incarnation of the game! Best of luck!
This would be a good time to recruit OC ponies that are tuned to fighting. Please only pick good looking ones if you do.
ReplyDelete*dies from overload of OMG*
ReplyDeleteOut of curiosity, Mane6, do you think you will be able to use the old music from RC88 and Whitetail? Are they original enough to not pull the hammer down once more?
ReplyDeleteOf all the best possible compromises that could happen, this is the Best Possible Compromise!
ReplyDeleteLook at it this way... I am really excited about what Lauren does in the
ReplyDeletefuture. I can't wait to see what new shows she brings us, but those
shows won't be MLP. They will be their own community with it's own fan
base. A lot of the people that like it will surely be the same as people
who like MLP but that doesn't mean it is part of the MLP community.
Just because I like Star Wars and Indiana Jones doesn't mean they are
part of the same fandom and community. Even if they are by the same
creator. So, while I look forward to seeing what happens... this is a
lose for the MLP community.
Just realized you are the same person I replied to on EQD, lol. :P
ReplyDeleteI for one welcome our new alpaca overlords.
ReplyDeleteThat's good to hear. Having the new characters be humanoid would be too much of a disjoint from the original concept.
ReplyDeleteI'll be honest and say this. Lauren is completely awesome for doing this and I'm eager to see what comes from this, but just not as enthusiastic as I was to see the original concept come to life. Hurts to say, but it's true.
Obviously you guys tried your hardest to get Hasbro to change their minds and it just didn't pan out. So I'm not trying to be a downer. Not at all. I'm just 'very' worried that once you guys are done (however long it may take) that it'll feel like we're playing a shell of a game. That's not a statement against your, or Lauren's, abilities, just to clarify. Just of how I feel about it.
Espeically since it seems the moves are going to be left intact, which were closely tied to the MLP characters. I think, honestly, that since you're going ahead with new characters. Consider scrapping the old moves, even if it adds months (or more) to the development time. Raritys gem moves, for example, on another character would just make me think of Rarity and the game that could/should have been.
This whole thing has shaken my, in lack of a better word, "loyalty" to Hasbro (i.e. not just watching the show but buying merch etc). Season 4 is probably going to be a "make it or break it" deal for me.
I wish you guys the best and hope you prove me wrong.
It isn't like bronies are a bunch of unmotivated idiots. With all the music, art, and fics that we do, we will find a way to return to the ponies of ole.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they'll be ponies... but they will be four-legged animals...
ReplyDeleteI'M EXCITED TO KNOW!!
You should maybe read this, Mane6: 27bslash6.com/covers.html
ReplyDeleteIt's from a comedy site, but the C&D he faced for parody is very real. The REALLY important bit is this line from one of the company's lawyers:
"Furthermore, trademark law has a "safe distance" rule that someone who has previously infringed (as you have) must stay further away from the plaintiff's trademark than one who has not previously infringed."
Just saying. Might want to think about moving away from that studio name you've got. Good luck, guys.
Short answer: no. Long answer: Nope.
ReplyDeleteHey, Lauren. Make a mod after the game is made of the characters from the show. There is almost no way to stop it if you do it yourself very sneakily
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the people who'll be interested because Faust is on board.
ReplyDeleteBackup Plan: Initiated.
ReplyDeleteLauren Faust: On board.
Phase 2: Online.
I feel like dragons would be a pretty good replacement. They're quadrapedal and some of them can be winged to incorporate the flying styles of pegasi. Either way this is great news, I can't wait to hear more updates!
ReplyDeleteActually, this is better. Why?
ReplyDeleteStep 1: Mane6 releases the new game, complete with original content by Lauren Faust herself.
Step 2: Fans mod the game, effectively creating Fighting is Magic beneath Hasbro's radar.
End result? Bronies get Fighting is Magic AND a game that Lauren Faust herself worked on. I highly doubt Hasbro would be even remotely interested in chasing after a community mod, especially since it won't be hyped up by EVO or anything.
It's a valid question. No where does it say there will not be ponies. It only says it wont be based on the MLP franchise. It's all based on the interpretation and how one wants to read the article.
ReplyDeleteNo where in LF's little blurb does it say it wont ponies.
can you not read better?
Indeed, We'll find a way. We always do. ^_^
ReplyDeleteThat's frigging incredible. Grats you guys for getting such a creative individual and a big thank you to Mrs. Faust for offering her ideas.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually betting that they'll have a variety of different quadrupeds. It'd definitely be awesome if a dragon was in there.
ReplyDeleteI'd suggest you guys to make a character customization or atleast something like that
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I'm really happy to read that.
ReplyDeleteNo mater pony or not, I'll support the heck our of your game :3
Many of bronies waited "Fighting is Magic", because ponies were in there. Ponies which we all love. But now it's just another fighting game. Just one from hundreds of other fighting games in the world.
ReplyDeleteI'm very sad because of it. :'(
PS: Sorry for my English.
Hasbro needs to change it's name to "Has" because there is no longer "bro" in Hasbro
ReplyDeleteYES
ReplyDeleteMy mind cannot prossess the awesome that is lauren faust
ReplyDeleteso basically, shes gonna change there colours and give them different names?
ReplyDeleteGENIUS 10/10
FAUST IS GOD
So you never got a response from Hasbro at all? That's a damn shame and I'm left shaking my head at the situation. I find it hard to believe that with all the support the game had, including from the show's staff that they wouldn't at least consider giving you a reply, but still.
ReplyDeleteI'll also be blunt: I'm pleased for you guys you're able to work with Lauren and I wish you the best on the revised project, but at the moment I can't bring myself to feel any excitement for it. I'll give it a look, but it was mainly the premise of FiM characters that drew me in.
Good luck to you guys, and don't give up!
ReplyDeleteOr at least Llamas...
ReplyDeleteFighting is magic down the drain.. :(
ReplyDeleteAll the damn work put to waste.
Why Hasbro, just why? D:
Well, whatevs. We have LAUREN FAUST :))
hey Mane6 I want to ask in behalf of a lot of people... can you give us some mod support for the game eventually? (wink-wink)
ReplyDeleteThis is the BEST. POSSIBLE. THING.
ReplyDeleteMane6: 1 Hasbro: 0
ReplyDeleteGO MANE6! GO FAUST! :D SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW!
ReplyDeleteThis is great news! How soon can we expect to see some concept art? Also,is this going to be disassociated from ponies completely, or just from Friendship is Magic characters?
ReplyDeleteTo all of you
ReplyDeletewho doubt a game
with ponies few
will be the same
I beg you to
rethink your claim
just think of who
has joined the mane.
Yes, its true
we'll miss the dames,
just bid adieu
its not a shame
the woman who
brought them to fame
has offered to
work on the game.
I have to ask: Will the Galaxy Girls be making a cameo in the new game?
ReplyDeleteI kind of have to agree with you. As cool as a game with lauran faust creating the ip soundscool.. in the end it'll be another fighter. Sure it could have fantastic music and cool designs/sets... but we were drawn in by the ponies. I love mane6 and all, and this is clearly hasbro over reacting. I'll check it out, but in the end it'll be another fighter I play once or twice likely. That's just me, I'll still support mane6
ReplyDeleteWhy would you ask someone if they can read in a text-only comment box?
ReplyDeleteFausticorn! All hail!
ReplyDeleteYou say " keeping
the moves, mechanics, and style" - does that mean, for example that there will be a character with all the same moves as Rarity but with a completely different appearance?
That's what I'm assuming.
ReplyDeleteHaving the creator herself volunteer to work with you all in the fan-project you wanted it to be, is as awesome as it can get, especially being a show with such huge reach and fanbase. Congratulations, and I still think it'll turn out great.
ReplyDeleteShame that Hasbro and this team couldn't sort things out, though.
I have my hopes up that the characters can at least still be ponies. I mean, on top of the other safety measures the game already had taken to be treated as "fair use" when started, you would now have different characters. That should make a big enough difference, right? Although to be fair, I could also understand it if doing so could represent a risk, and considering the humongous amount of work needed for the project... well...
Anyhow, my best of wishes, and may this turn out awesome!
It's unfortunate that Fighting is Magic will no longer be in itself an MLP fighting game, that much is for sure, however, I'm still very interested in seeing what will become of the project after this turn of events. Especially if we'll still get to see movesets based on what we would have seen in the original Fighting is Magic project.
ReplyDeleteConsidering that there are already quite a few talking about mods, will this game have mod support, or will the modders have to tear the game apart before they can even try?
ReplyDeleteWe did get a response, it was just very non-specific generic lawyery responses with no real indication of opening discussion.
ReplyDeleteWe're aware of the ponies being be main draw of our game. Acutely aware, even, we've stated it many times! But we put a lot of work into it, and it's either let it go completely or try something new and exciting.
We have no experience ourselves creating characters but Lauren does. With her help, we'd be crazy not to give it a go! We're willing to put in the work. We hope our game does well and that people will like the characters, but if not we're going to have a blast anyway.
Once or twice is better than zero!
ReplyDeleteI wish you all the best!
ReplyDeletePretty much! We've spent a long time refining the movesets and those are OUR property. So you can expect certain similarities to the characters you already know. I can say that much. I think.. oops.
ReplyDelete
